Don’t change road setbacks along Waccamaw neck

The Waccamaw Neck is a unique place in all of South Carolina. It is a lush green area, but also a very distinguished area with Brookgreen Gardens and the actual Pawleys Island Community. It is recognized nationally as a dedicated pristine area. Why then would we want to ruin our environment by allowing additional structures to be built up closer to U.S. 17?

With more stop lights than were ever thought of and the mish-mash of the numerous median breaks (that was never anticipated in the previous U.S. 17 study), our main artery along the Neck has become more difficult to traverse. Allowing buildings closer to U.S. 17 (a 50-foot setback) will likely make this main traffic artery along the Neck more difficult to navigate.

A 50-foot setback will turn into a major mistake that could never be reversed. More infrastructure along U.S. 17, particularly in the Pawleys Island area, will mean less drainage.
