Letter | North Myrtle Beach should annex Atlantic Beach

I have read numerous articles concerning Bikefest and the problems associated with the influx of people and bikes.

The Governor went to the Atlantic Beach municipality and asked that they not support the rally, and basically they snubbed her recommendation but did agree to shut down at 2 a.m. instead of 4 a.m.

Why hasn't North Myrtle Beach just annexed Atlantic Beach? In the 13 years I have been here, I have read about an Atlantic Beach mayor being arrested (twice), funds being embezzled, the shut-down of support services (police, government, etc.) without notifying anyone that those services were terminated.

The physical appearance of Atlantic Beach is one of disrepair and in need of some structural updates. They have literally taken a portion of Ocean Boulevard and closed it off so that portion of the beach can only be enjoyed by those going directly to Atlantic Beach. Why not let Crescent Beach do the same?

I understand the heritage of Atlantic Beach but for the good of all, bring it into the fold.

The writer lives in Myrtle Beach.
