New S.C. law needed to protect animals from puppy mills
It broke my heart to read about the deplorable conditions those poor dogs were kept in at the Conway puppy mill. It is time for South Carolina legislators to enact tougher laws for breeders.
A law should be enacted - immediately - requiring breeders to obtain a state license and comply with tough regulations. State licensed reps should make surprise visits to the breeder’s site to ensure the animals are kept in proper and humane conditions.
Pet retailers such as Petco and Pet Smart should buy only from state-approved and licensed breeders to ensure their pets are treated humanely. This would shut down these puppy mills.
Puppy mills would cease to exist if, when purchasing a pet, future pet owners were more concerned about pet conditions than price. Let’s do something now and protect these poor innocent animals.
