While parking meters may be a nice source of revenue, are they penny wise and dollar foolish?
We love “Old Myrtle Beach.” We love to visit the “Gay Dolphin” and the boardwalk area attractions. We really like it down there. However we don’t go that often anymore because parking and paying for parking is such a pain.
I guess free parking would not work, but what about a cap of $5 for all day? That would be much more inviting and pay for itself quite easily. There would be many additional folks that would come down, and best of all, stay longer, and spend more at the attractions, shops, and restaurants.
When I visit someplace with parking meters I never really feel like I’m there. I feel like a short-term visitor and never really relax and enjoy the stay because I know in an hour or so I have to find change and walk all the way back to my car to feed the meter.
Most times we just leave.
