I read with interest the story about a proposed crosswalk over Ocean Boulevard. Let me say at the outset I do not have a dog in this fight. It will not affect my life whether or not they are allowed to build it.
My wife and I ride our bicycles under the existing one many times each winter. On Monday we went under it and were asking each other if it was something new or not. I guess not, since the paper says it was put up in 1998. Point being, that’s how much attention we have paid to it.
I can see why the builder would like to put one up. If my family was staying in their resort I’d think it was nice to be able to get the kids to the water park without crossing a busy street. Same thing if I was returning late from a local restaurant with the family.
As to the “aesthetically displeasing” aspects of the project, have these people seen the Skywheel, the bungee jump towers or the zip line? Have they taken a drive on Flagg Street or Withers lately? Go one street in from Ocean Boulevard and take a slow ride.
