As a volunteer and member of the Friends of Carolina Forest Library, I would like to say that the Carolina Forest Library has become one of the busiest libraries in Horry County since it opened two years ago. We have a very active children's library and an assistant librarian who covers three elementary schools in our area plus provides all kinds of children's programs at the library along with regular library duties.
I understand there is a position for a librarian to cover the children's library that has never been filled. I feel that we should allow our current assistant librarian to take that position and hire someone else to cover her position. This would allow her to concentrate on our children. Also, I would love to see the hours on Friday and Saturday increased as many patrons can't come during the week and right now, we are only open 4 hours on those days.
Don’t expect leaders
to cancel bike events
Anyone who expects our elected officials to say anything about canceling either one of the motorcycle rallies, might have to think again. You have to realize that big business runs these cities and towns. You have all of the hotels, restaurants , gift shops ,golf courses gas stations, as well as a slew of other businesses that depend on these two bike events to bolster their businesses.
These big businesses also contribute a whole lot of money to the campaign funds of our elected officials. I don't think it is fair for Myrtle Beach officials to increase taxes to pay for the police protection. The businesses should either be asked to foot the bill, or place a 10 percent surtax on all of their operations for those two weeks. Our citizens are going to be taxed for something they don't want any part of.
As far as the proposed 40-mile loop, that is totally wrong. Our police cannot handle these masses of people where they are now. How do they expect to handle them spread out over the countryside. You will be taking these people out into new areas where they can have some really wild parties. This could happen anywhere on that loop, and then you will have no control at all.
County’s responses fuzzy
to outage, construction questions
I enjoyed reading the various statements for the public's information about Myrtle Beach happenings: The Southbound Overpass at the back gate will be opening Tuesday. Maybe. OK ,Wednesday for sure.
The runway lights went out at the airport and the cause will be checked into and repaired: We checked into the runway light situation and no one cause was found. Several different factors may have been involved in the issue. Really? Sure that someone didn't trip over the extension cord and pull the plug? This county administration can be summed up in one word. Sad.
