Myrtle Beach should purchase the former Myrtle Square Mall property and turn it into a park. The city could sign a long term lease if purchasing it is to expensive. That property could be a really nice park with an amphitheater like Forsythe Park in Savannah. A park would help beautify U.S. 17 and help merchants close to the site.
The car show and some bigger free concerts along with Fourth of July fireworks would be nice in the heart of Myrtle Beach. One more strip mall or more restaurants are not needed, but a nice big green park would be nice. The hospitality tax could be used, benefiting the Myrtle Beach area and its image. A smart design using some of the existing infrastructure could make it relatively cheap.
