The 2012 Toys for Tots program is under way in Horry County and is sponsored by Grand Strand Detachment No. 873 of the Marine Corps League. The Grand Strand Detachment is a community service organization made up of an aggressive group of active and retired Marines, FMF Corpsmen, and associate members. The dedicated members of the detachment have placed Toys for Tots collection boxes at various sites such as banks, retail establishments, gasoline filling stations, Belk Department Store, lobbies of apartment buildings, East Coast Honda -Volkswagen, Hadwin-White Motors, restaurants, North Myrtle Beach fire and police headquarters, North Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce, North Myrtle Beach Recreation Center, and North Myrtle Beach Aquatic and Fitness Center.
Donors may place new, unwrapped toys in the numerous collection boxes named at the aforementioned localities. Periodically, the contents of the collection boxes will be collected and transported to a central holding location, where the toys are inspected and sorted by age and gender group. The toys are then transported to an appropriate agency, which will distribute the toys to needy, deserving children residing in Horry County.
For information on where to receive toys, please call Help4Kids, 843-651-4310. Dec. 17 is the last day for the collection of new unwrapped toys. Cash donations in the form of personal checks are also accepted and should be made out to Toys for Tots Foundation and mailed to John Kovalcik,1321 Royal Devon Drive, Myrtle Beach, SC 29575.
