Romney election would hurt rest of us

If Mitt Romney wins, right-wing Republicans will probably control all branches of government.

Romney has made it clear that he plans to implement Paul Ryan’s budget (with a few tweaks.) If this happens, we will, by next spring, be living in a different type of country than we, our parents, or our grandparents have ever experienced before.

Income tax for the wealthy will decrease significantly, adding $5 trillion to the deficit in the next 10 years. Medicare for people now under age 55 will be transitioned into a program where the elderly search for private insurance with partial help from government vouchers. There will be major cuts in basic government services, while defense spending beyond what the Pentagon has asked for will add $2 trillion dollars to our national debt in the next 10 years. A costly war with Iran will be likely.

Public health and safety will no longer be a concern of the federal government. Families will no longer be able to get government assistance when money runs out for their chronically ill parents. Food stamps will no longer feed hungry children. Low-income families will be hopelessly in debt from emergency room bills. The entire social safety net will be eliminated in a matter of months.

The Ryan budget will repeal Obamacare, leading to such consequences as insurance companies denying health care coverage to people with pre-existing conditions. Fifty million people will lose health insurance.

There is no way Democrats can stop this. We will be living in a brave new world where the big fish prey on the little fish – and 99 percent of us will be little fish. We will be on our own, competing against multi-billion-dollar corporations.

If that is what you want, vote accordingly.
