Not all Christians believe in corporal punishment

Re Sept. 16 letter by Pastor Steven Guy, "Spanking endorsed by God"

It is shameful that a pastor would use the word of God to try and justify violence towards children. The laying of a rod, a hand, an electrical cord or hair brush on a child is simply violence against someone who has no recourse. The only lesson learned is that bigger people have the right to hurt smaller people to get their way.

There is a difference between discipline and physical punishment. The writer is very limited if he believes the only effective way to discipline a child is to cause physical pain. As a Christian I am very upset by the suggestion by Pastor Guy that physical punishment is the correct and Christian way to discipline a child. I hope everyone knows that all Christians do not share this belief.

The writer lives in Myrtle Beach.
