What happened to civil discourse?

As our presidential election draws closer, think about how much more violent the rhetoric from people in both parties is becoming, with even the candidates themselves seeming to lose all sense of decency sometimes as to what is and is not acceptable speech. Should we not expect more from those who want to lead us? Should we not expect more from ourselves as we talk to and talk about those who disagree with our views? Are our politicians setting the standard we should all be following or are we responsible for them setting a standard they think will win them the most votes?

I have been blogging nine years this week and in that time I have seen the discourse on blog sites deteriorate to a point where it’s painfully obvious nothing is being accomplished because of all the name-calling. Surely we are all better than that.
