Let children decide on feral cats

Re Aug. 24 letter by John Bonsignor, “Conway out of line in picking on cat feeder”

Thank you, John Bonsignor of Sav-R-Cats for your excellent letter alerting the public to the outrageous situation facing Gerri Dempsey in Conway. This 71-year-old woman is being harassed and threatened with imprisonment and a $1,000 fine by Conway authorities for feeding homeless and feral cats. This letter is directed to those government authorities.

There are various approaches that can be taken to discuss this situation. For the sake of brevity, I am offering only one approach.

I challenge all of the authorities involved to tell some children about the situation (your young children, grandchildren, elementary school kids). Look them in the eye and tell them what you are trying to do to the cats and Ms. Dempsey. Ask them if it is OK to starve the cats and put Ms. Dempsey in prison. Ask them what they think is the best thing to do.

Finally, visit www.sav-r-cats.com for more information about taking care of homeless cats.
