How do you thank someone who gives so much? Ian Maguire, a local attorney, has made a tremendous difference in the lives of the poor and downtrodden in Myrtle Beach. Ian’s ongoing philanthropy to the Community Kitchen has enabled us to expand our services to include breakfast as well as lunch and to remain open 365 days a year. More importantly, his unshakeable commitment inspires all of us to do more for those in need.
Homelessness and poverty are inextricably linked. A hungry person cannot concentrate or take initiative and hungry children lose all desire to play and study. The Community Kitchen and Ian Maguire believe that we are not powerless to make a difference. We believe that the most vulnerable people among us should be encouraged and treated with compassion and dignity.
Every day of the year, volunteers at the kitchen work diligently and compassionately to ensure that no one in the surrounding Myrtle Beach community goes hungry. The mission of the Community Kitchen is to provide free meals with no requirement for service. Located in an area of concentrated poverty, the Community Kitchen and Ian Maguire will continue our long term commitment to ensure no one goes hungry.
The writers are co-directors of the Community Kitchen of Myrtle Beach.
