Sad to think that many didn’t get Olympic medal letter’s joke

Re Aug 15 letter by John Long “U.S. won too many medals.”

I read Mr. Long’s tongue-in-cheek treatise on sharing Olympic letters with losing competitors. It was obviously taking a shot at redistribution of wealth to those that contribute less than gold. It is the same as asking high-achieving students to share their A’s with those that get D’s or F’s, so that everyone gets a C grade.

What worries me that recently; several letter writers take umbrage or question the basis of his soft humor? Do they really think he meant it? And more importantly, do they actually vote? The irony is that they probably do.
