Fewer fliers in Myrtle Beach may be due to higher fares

Re decline in airport passengers

I am wondering if the airfares might be a contributing factor to the downturn in passenger numbers at the Myrtle Beach airport.

We are going to Vegas to visit some friends in March, and I was checking on some flights. From Myrtle Beach it is about $620 round trip. From Wilmington and Florence it is about $460 round trip. From Charleston, $420 round trip.

It is really worth it for two of us to fly out of Charleston. Yes, about $30 worth of gas, and $60 for long term parking, but a savings of $400 on two tickets. Seems like a no-brainer to me.

Is this a big reason for the lack of passengers?
