Government not the road to success

President Obama recently said, “If you’ve got a business, you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen.” Ignoring the jaw-dropping ignorance of that statement, I think his awkwardly expressed point was that successful businesses use government sponsored programs and infrastructure. They also use good ideas, commitment, and good planning, but I’m sure they’re just minor factors.

Our governmental systems of transportation, education and security are used by all our citizens. If he is going to claim responsibility for those that become millionaires along the way then he must also accept equal responsibility for those that do not, and there are a lot more of the latter.

If government spending created wealth, Europe would be a shining example of success. Now instead of “bridges to nowhere” we have California’s $68 billion “high-speed train to nowhere.” I’m sure the millionaires will just be flowing out the other end of that one. Right?
