Tax cuts for rich simply didn’t work

The July 15 column by Amy Payne, “Tax hike on job creators,” is the same tired excuse for the wealthy to avoid paying their fair share of taxes.

The tax reduction has been in effect for nearly 10 years; four or five of those years have seen dismal results for U.S. employment. Exactly where are all those jobs? Following the logic of the writer, we should have seen continuing job creation and never hit the economic lows that we have. Frankly, I’m tired of being talked down to as though I can’t see for myself that this argument is full of holes.

There is no common sense shown at all in making these kinds of claims and yet they continue to trot out the same old, same old in defense of the rich. Unless we all start using some critical thinking and reject the big lies, this country will continue its slide into third world status with the very rich at the top and the rest of us paying for them.

The writer lives in Myrtle Beach.
