Re: June 25 letter from James Godhard, “Conservative letters lack accuracy, facts”
Mr. Godhard wrote that he disagreed with my statement which appeared in the Sun News May 15, that Barack Obama could not be a Christian because he supports gay marriage. Mr. Godhard wrote that he is a Christian that he supports gay marriage and although he didn’t say so I assume he doesn’t believe his support of gay marriage is inconsistent with the Word of God-the Bible.
The question that I have for Mr. Godhard, “What is your definition of support?” Do you define support as, tolerate, advocate, etc”? Several dictionaries I consulted define the word support as: (a) to aid the cause, policy, or interests of: as he supported her in her election campaign; or (b) to argue in favor of.
My point is this. If a person advocates same sex marriage, where the word advocate is defined as, defends, supports or maintains a cause, the person is acting contrary to the Word of God.

It is possible that a Christian can believe in a doctrine or practice that is inconsistent with what the Bible teaches out of ignorance or absence of knowledge.
What did the authors of the Bible have to say about the inerrancy and infallibility of the Bible? Jesus verified the infallibility, the inerrancy and indestructible Word of God when He said, “How foolish you are, and how slow to believe all that the prophets have spoken! The apostle Paul wrote in Timothy 3:15:” All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.” To deny that the Bible is the Word of God is to call Jesus a liar.
Franklin Graham, the son of the world famous Billy Graham, was quoted as saying that when Obama supported gay marriage, he shook his fist at God. Graham said, “This is a sad day for America. May God help us,” Mr. Graham was but one of many renowned Christian theologians who pronounced anathema upon those who support same sex marriage.
When a person condones supports or advocates a practice that God abhors, how can that person claim to be a Christian? It has been rightfully stated: Never condone a practice that God condemns.
