Imagine my delight when the Myrtle Beach Pelicans general manager called to invite Horry County’s foster children to a weekend of ball games. His generous offer and the coordination of the Pelicans’ Julie Borshak meant that the children and foster parents enjoyed fresh air, true sportsmanship and the chance to meet the mascot, Splash. It was an event that excited the children and I understood, having volunteered in concessions with my civic group, the Myrtle Beach Civitan Club.
Long after the weekend of games, foster parents called to say the children couldn’t stop talking about the game and their adventure in Myrtle Beach. The opportunity to watch professional ball gives a feeling of anticipation to anyone in the stands. For children who have experienced some of life’s hardest knocks at an early age, this is a dream come true for those who never thought of a day at the ball park and the excitement of the game. Thank you to the Myrtle Beach Pelicans.
