Honor Flight Myrtle Beach was privileged to be the recipient of proceeds from the Surfside Beach Car Show on May 26. On behalf of all our Honor Flight volunteers, I would like to thank the town of Surfside Beach and Debbie Ellis, supervisor of special events, for sponsoring the event. Also, our thanks go to Bob Walker, Dave Epstein, and the Myrtle Beach Car Club for their organizational assistance and helpfulness at the event. Additionally, the participation of the many exhibitors with their fabulous vehicles is what made it such a great success.
Ten World War II veterans from our various flights served as judges along with four other veterans who were guardians for Honor Flight. As judges, they all had a great time and found it a challenge to make selections from so many excellent choices. Everyone working the car show went out of their way to make the event enjoyable for our most senior veterans!
A fifth Honor Flight is scheduled for Oct. 24 and, with each flight costing approximately $55,000, fundraising is an ongoing effort. For that reason, we are extremely grateful when a community like Surfside Beach provides such a wonderful show of support.
