Letters to the Editor

Welcome home, WWII veterans

You did this for me?

This is a question asked by one of the WWII veterans who returned from Washington on the latest Honor Flight. He said he couldn’t believe what he saw on landing at the terminal. A water salute from the airport fire truck, a wall of flags at the gate held at attention in salute by so many groups, family, friends, neighbors, all cheering along with music provided by a festive brass band. Being escorted across a red carpet by the Coastal Carolina Shields Honor Guard to the terminal.

Yes, we did this for you. We do this to honor you who honored us by serving our country.

Thanks to all who attended this ceremony, your presence touched these veterans in a special way to help make this trip more memorable.

The writers live in Murrells Inlet and Myrtle Beach, respectively.
