It would be difficult for me to let this primary pass without thanking the publisher and staff of The Sun News for their willingness to educate the public.
From the editorial on May 1, shedding some light on some of the shenanigans of the former lieutenant governor, who now is seeking a seat in Congress, to the May 25 column by award winning writer, Issac Bailey, “The courage to lead the 7th District”, we have all become more informed, not so much on the issues as on the
backgrounds and character of the candidates.
The space you have donated to individuals, who wanted to express their views, has been phenomenal. Thank God for our freedom of speech, and for your willingness to publish same.

To date I have attended one forum. The Burgess Coalition had gone the extra mile and invited the public to a forum at the St. James High School. Ten of the 14 candidates seeking office attended, but the former lieutenant governor apparently did not feel this one important enough for his presence.
After sitting through over 2 hours of political bantering, I can honestly say that I was impressed with four of those present.
Having voted in every election since 1972, I will enthusiastically cast my vote for Tom Rice on June 12. I have known Tom Rice since he, was a young boy, started as an acolyte at our church. He graduated from Myrtle Beach High School with our eldest daughter and went on to pursue his education both in law and accounting and has proven himself to be a valuable asset to our community.
The newly formed 7th Congressional District will be well represented in Washington, D.C., by a man of his caliber, character and superior education.
