Obama accusations

confuse visitor

I'm a Scots-Canadian, and I happily spend half of every year here, among my friends in Myrtle Beach. I've read Karl Marx in the original German, so I understand socialism and communism. What I can't understand are the terms of George Edwards' recent letter ("Feds attack citizens' interests," Feb. 7). President Obama, he says, is a liar whose birth and academic records are false, and whose secret plan is to bring the USA to its knees, via the teachings of a disgraced and since disavowed pastor, plus a heartfelt deference to this nation's enemies. Well, who woulda thunk it?

All I can add is to tell Mr. Edwards that he should read more widely and, perhaps, get out into the world a little more.

Bowling adventure

for the kids

If you had walked into Surfside Bowling Center on Tuesday, you would have seen every lane packed with special needs students of all grade levels from Horry and Georgetown counties. Cheers of joy as they knocked down the pins could be heard throughout the building. Their smiles were contagious. The children enjoyed hot dogs and fries for lunch before the lights were dimmed and the music started. Some got up and danced and others finished their games.

Thank you, Ted and Pat Prehodka of Toomey's Kids, which makes this annual event possible through the nonprofit organization's donations and fundraisers. In addition, the students look forward each year to fishing off Garden City Pier, a trip to Ripley's Aquarium, a Halloween party and a Christmas party with music, dancing, food and gifts for all.
