Stimulus should pay for benefit extension
The Sun News on July 22 had an article from The Associated Press ("Senate OKs pay for jobless) that shows the bias of our liberal press. It indicated how our local politicians voted on extending unemployment benefits beyond two years.
It should have at least quoted the suggestion of President Obama, who said further expenditures should be deficit-neutral. New or extended programs should be financed by reductions to existing programs, thereby reducing or [slowing the increase of] our huge deficit. Democrats seem to have short memories.

It quotes Clark Newsome, S.C. Department of Employment, "that's a lot of money people will put back into the economy. In some cases, it probably saves jobs and businesses because these people have to eat." Why not take the money from one of the previously approved stimulus programs? After all, only half of that money has been spent. Could it be that the stimulus programs are ineffective?

War in Afghanistan all cost, no benefit
This war in Afghanistan is pure insanity. Our soldiers are being killed defending goat farms and mud huts in a region of the earth that poses no threat to our way of life, other than bankrupting us. Our soldiers have followed orders and fought bravely, but to what end? If the neocons, such as Bill Kristol, Charles Krauthammer, Sean Hannity, Glenn Beck and the rest of the bloodthirsty cabal want these wars to continue, they should send their sons to die defending warlords and poppy fields.
