Efforts disregard cost to people

Who is the main culprit in the disaster now occurring in the Gulf of Mexico? How about environmentalists? Environmentalists hate progress, mankind, technology and, in general, human life. This nation was founded on a pioneer spirit; environmentalists consider progress an obscene word. They don't care about clean air or water, but the undoing of the country's industrial revolution. This dangerous group has sought to prohibit the development of Alaskan oil, offshore drilling, nuclear power and any other practical form of energy. Loggers' livelihoods are sacrificed for a snail darter or spotted owl. An environmentalist has more sympathy for a lab mouse than a cure for a patient suffering from a serious disease. The goal of an environmentalist is not clean air and clean water; rather, it is the demolition of technological/industrialization civilization. They do not care about the advancement of human health or human happiness; rather, it is where "nature" is worshipped like a primitive religion. Their religion makes it a sin to intrude on nature.

Environmentalists can be called Greens, Democrats, liberals and progressives. They fixate on a location in or around the United States where oil exploration is being conducted and use every fair and foul means available to thwart drilling. For example, the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge is over 19 million acres of frozen-over dirt. It is not a luxurious wilderness. No one lives there, nor would anyone want to. Even the Russians didn't care too much for it, apparently, so they kept Siberia and sold Alaska to the United States in 1867. Underneath ANWR is a huge deposit of oil, and it would make much more sense to drill for oil there than to buy oil from the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries.

As far as environmentalists are concerned, private property rights are an impediment to the "protection" of what they always describe as pristine forests, deserts or some horrid wilderness such as the ANWR. ANWR is unfit for human habitation, but it does have thousands of caribou and several billion barrels of untapped oil beneath a "pristine" surface. The Greens, Democrats and progressives use the excuse that the mating habits of the caribou would be inhibited. First, I doubt if these people know the difference between a caribou and Bullwinkle the moose. Second, the Central Arctic caribou herd that migrates through Prudhoe Bay has grown from 3,000 animals to its current level of 32,000 animals. The Arctic oil fields have very healthy brown bear, fox and bird populations equal to their surrounding areas.

Environmental fears about drilling and global warming have been promoted by those who wish to control our lifestyles. Depriving Americans of the ability to use their own oil is what Big Brother has done to control our lives. In California, Big Brother recently attempted a requirement that the electric meters placed on homes allow utilities to reset thermostats. Environmentalism isn't primarily about saving the planet: It's about controlling people.
