Halt government's wrong direction

I am a week away from being 60 years old, and never in my life have I had such a scary feeling about where our country is headed. We have a government that basically cannot function. We have the Democrats on one side and the Republicans on the other, and nobody is going to make a move to the other side's idea, which basically results in a nonfunctional government. We need to realize this has occurred over a long period of time and did not just happen in the past eight or 12 years.

We have a president who wants to be the one to pass health care reform at any cost. While I will be the first to agree that we do have problems with health care costs there is no way for the government to do what they claim without it costing every single American to pay more taxes.

Every problem the president runs into, we throw money at it. We don't have the money to throw at it, and it needs to stop. He is not creating jobs, and I can speak to that personally. It has been so long since I hired an employee I have forgotten how. In the past two years I have laid off over 45 people due to the slowdown, but you turn the TV on and the president is telling you how many jobs they have created. Right here in Myrtle Beach we cancelled the annual job fair expo because there are no jobs for the employers to advertise for.

I do not believe our forefathers intended for our country to end up in this shape. The only way to turn it around is for us the American people to change the way our government operates. We have limits on presidential terms, and we should put limits on the Congress and Senate. Two terms for all of them is enough. They can serve their country for two terms and then go back into the work force just like every other American.

Stop and think how much money in taxes has to be raised to pay retirement benefits for a one-term congressman. This has to stop; let them, like every other American, generate a 401K and draw Social Security.

We all need to sit down, take a deep breath and look at where our country is headed. Is this what we want for our children and grandchildren? It is not what I want, and I can assure you that I will continue to pray for God to bless America.
