Partly sunny skies and an afternoon thunderstorm is possible today in the Myrtle Beach area with a high temperature of 96 degrees, according to AccuWeather. Partly cloudy skies are expected overnight with a shower or thunderstorm and a low of 74. Tomorrow's forecast calls for partly sunny skies and 88 degrees.
A heat advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service in Wilmington, N.C., according to AccuWeather. Heat index values are to reach between 100 and 104 degrees for coastal northeast South Carolina and coastal southeast North Carolina. Residents are warned to take breaks from the heat and be on the lookout for heat-related illnesses.
Officials with the weather service said that a weak cold front is expected to move into the area late Saturday and Sunday and will only drop temperatures a few degrees on Sunday. Chances for thunderstorms will range from 20 percent to 30 percent through the weekend.
