A Wedgefield man wanted earlier Monday in an active shooting investigation has been taken into custody, officials say.

Quincy Jerrod Carter Jr., 19, was taken into custody shortly before 11 p.m., Sumter County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Braden Bunch said in a statement released Monday night.

Carter was wanted earlier in connection with a shooting that took place around 5:30 p.m. Monday in the 1200 block of Alva Drive in the Cherryvale neighborhood, adjacent to Shaw Airforce Base.

Carter will be taken to the Sumter Lee Regional Detention Center, Bunch said. The victim in the shooting is expected to recover, Bunch said.
