Columbia Police Chief Skip Holbrook said 17-year-old CA Johnson student Eric Washington was fatally shot at T.S. Martin Park Sunday night.

Washington, who was enrolled in the Army National Guard, died Sunday night at Palmetto Health Richland.

Washington was taken to the hospital in a private vehicle after being shot, Watts said. An autopsy shows that he died from complications of a gunshot wound to the head.

The shooting happened around 7:30 p.m. at T.S. Martin Park, Columbia Police Department spokeswoman Jennifer Timmons said in a statement released Sunday night.

The park is located near W.A. Perry Middle School in a residential area between West Beltline Boulevard and Two Notch Road.

The department is continuing to investigate, Timmons said.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
