GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP) – A woman has given birth to a baby girl in North Carolina after her water broke while she was aboard a passenger jet that had to be diverted because of the medical emergency.
American Airlines Flight 611 from Philadelphia to Atlanta with 90 passengers and five crew members was diverted to Greensboro on Tuesday afternoon.
Multiple media outlets reported that Shaniqua Cherry gave birth in an ambulance while on the way to the hospital. They reported Cherry and her 7-pound daughter were doing fine at Women’s Hospital in Greensboro.
The airline says the flight resumed its trip shortly after Cherry was taken off the plane and arrived in Atlanta shortly before 3 p.m.
