A 37-year-old man driving a pickup truck while hauling a boat was killed after his vehicle hit a tree, authorities said Sunday.

The accident happened around 4 a.m., south of Aynor, near Myrtle Beach area. Frederick “Dustin” Cumbie, of Galivants Ferry, died at the scene from his injuries, said Horry County Coroner Patty Bellamy.

A passenger in the pickup truck did not need medical assistance and was not transported to the hospital, said South Carolina Master Trooper William Bennett.

The driver was headed east along Jordanville Road near Jeno Road when he lost control of the vehicle, drove off the road and hit a tree.

South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the accident.
