Danielle Watson, a teacher at Whittemore Park Middle School in Conway, has received a $2,000 grant from Voya Financial Inc. as part of the company’s 2014 Unsung Heroes awards competition.
Grants are given to K-12 educators nationwide to honor innovative teaching methods, creative educational projects and the ability to positively influence the children they teach. Watson now will compete with other winners for one of the top three prizes — an additional $5,000, $10,000 or $25,000 from Voya Financial.
Watson is one of 100 winners selected from more than 1,000 applicants. The award will help fund her creative idea, “It’s a Wrap!” which is designed to combine and integrate science concepts with music, technology and video production, and will require the purchase of audio/visual equipment that is currently unavailable.
