Horry County Schools is expected to get back a tract of land from Horry County in case it needs to expand Socastee High School.
Horry County Council will hold a second reading and public hearing Tuesday on the transfer of the tract, which is the former site of the Socastee Recycling Center, off River Road behind Socastee High School. The school district originally bought the property in 1979, and it has moved between the district and the county several times since the purchase.
HCS Deputy Superintendent Rick Maxey said the district has no plans to build on the site but wanted it in case there was a need to expand facilities or athletic fields at Socastee High in the future. He said the county will retain a small section of the tract that holds a storage shed.
Council will meet at 6 p.m. in council chambers at the Horry County Government and Justice Center, 1301 Second Ave., Conway.
