One dead after Longs area shooting

Horry County police are investigating after a 31-year-old victim was shot to death early Saturday morning in the Longs area.

Christopher Alexander Sumpter of the Loris area died from multiple gunshot wounds while in surgery at Grand Strand Regional Medical Center, according to Tony Hendrick, Horry County Deputy Coroner.

The incident happened about 2:20 a.m. near S.C. 905 in the Longs area, Hendrick said.
