A man was awoken to find his work van on fire Tuesday morning, according to a Myrtle Beach police report.
Officers were called about 5:30 a.m. to the 300 block of Cedar Street where a 35-year-old man and his underage son reported the incident to police, authorities said.
The man said he and his son were awoken by loud popping sounds and when he looked outside, he saw his 2000 Chevrolet Astro work van was on fire, police said.
Firefighters were called and the man tried to put out the fire with a garden hose. The man said he had all his work tools in the back of the van and estimated their value to be about $5,000 and said the van was worth $1,800, according to the report.
Police deemed the fire suspicious and noted two area residents have video surveillance footage that will be reviewed.
