A Georgetown County Sheriff’s deputy was arrested Tuesday after police investigated a domestic assault in Litchfield.
Mark Clayton Durkee, 21, was arrested for 3rd degree domestic violence involving his live-in fiance, according to Carrie Cuthbertson, public information officer with the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Department.
Police arrested Durkee after an investigation into the assault of his fiance Monday night after the victim notified police she was physically attacked by Durkee on Sunday, Cuthbertson said.
The incident occurred at Durkee’s resident on Ashcraft Circle in Litchfield.
Durkee became enraged due to a conflict in his relationship with his fiance, Cuthbertson said, when he started throwing items around the house and flipping furniture. At some point during the incident, Durkee struck the victim in her face, she said.
Durkee met with police Tuesday morning where he gave a statement and was arrested, Cuthbertson said. He is awaiting bond at the Georgetown County Detention Center.
Durkee was terminated after his arrest, Cuthbertson said. He served with the sheriff’s office for a year.
