An employee of the Georgetown County Detention Center has been arrested on multiple counts of misconduct and removed from the staff, according to the Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office.

Reginald Smalls Jr., 27, was charged with two counts of misconduct in office, along with two other counts of second degree sexual misconduct with an inmate.

According to a prepared statement by the Georgetown County Sheriff's Office, the charges were filed after an investigation was completed following "complaints of improper conduct" were made by inmates.

"The investigation was initiated by Detention Center staff after learning of the allegations," the prepared statement said. "As a result of interviews and other findings, it was determined the case was criminal and Georgetown County Sheriff’s Investigators were contacted."

Smalls, a corrections officer at the Georgetown County Detention Center since Dec. 2016, admitted to claims of misconduct and corroborated the initial complaint, the prepared statement said.

He was released on a personal recognizance bond Thursday afternoon.
