Two men were taken into Horry County police custody after a police chase ensued on foot after three men jumped out of a car police pulled over because it was reported stolen, Lt. Raul Denis, spokesman for Horry County police, said.

Jamie R. Jenkins, 24, of Whiteville, N.C., was arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident, possession of stolen vehicle, possession of cocaine, driving under suspension, and habitual offender.

Michael L. Moore, 25, of Conway, was arrested and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and possession of narcotics/cocaine.

Police are still searching for one suspect, who ran from officers after a traffic stop that resulted in a car crash, caused by the suspects leaving the car in drive when they abandoned it to run from officers, authorities said.

Officers were following a stolen car, which was equipped with a tracking system, about 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, near Webb Street in Conway, Denis said.

Police were following the stolen white Toyota Camry, which turned into the Raintree Apartment complex, off S.C. 701 in Conway. A traffic stop was initiated by police, and three men jumped out of the car and immediately ran from police. The drive left the car in gear, and the car crashed into the side of a parked, burgundy Mercury Mountaineer, police said.

Police saw Moore drop a handgun as he ran from authorities, authorities said.

Officers saw Moore in a stairwell in the apartment complex. He was laying down in an attempt to hide from authorities when officers found him, according to the report.

Moore then ran into a wooded area near the apartment complex, and officers caught and detained him at that time, police said.

Authorities said they heard over their dispatch radio that one of the men they were chasing was seen at a grocery store.

Conway police assisted Horry County police detain Jenkins at a Food Lion store, authorities said.

Police said they searched the stolen car and found three white rocks, which tested positive for cocaine and found a white power that police said was a “cutting agent,” according to the report.

Officers also said they found a plastic bag of cocaine underneath one the seats.

Jenkins and Moore were transported to the Horry County Detention Center and are awaiting bond hearings, Denis said.

Information on the third man was not available.

Police are still searching for the suspect.
