A Conway police officer has been placed on leave without pay after a DUI arrest Sunday.
Officer Justin Lynch was arrested and charged with driving under the influence and speeding more than 25 mph over the posted speed limit by the Myrtle Beach Police Department, according to Lt. Selena Small of the Conway Police Department.
Lynch has been placed on leave without pay pending adjudication of the case and/or conclusion of an internal investigation that will be conducted by the Conway Police Department, Small said.
Police clocked Lynch driving 66 mph in a 35 mph zone on North Kings Highway near 23rd Avenue North, according to an MBPD incident report.
Officers noted “an odor of alcoholic beverage” coming from Lynch’s truck as police approached.
The responding officer asked Lynch where he was coming from and he stated he was coming from home, according to the report. When asked where he was heading to, police say, Lynch said he was headed home.
The responding officer noted Lynch’s eyes were “red and glassy and that his movements were slow and lethargic,” but police say Lynch refused to submit to field sobriety tests and refused to give a breath sample once at the jail.
