Myrtle Beach police charged a woman with cruelty to children after authorities said she choked an 8-year-old victim.

Dana Hamilton, 51, was arrested Wednesday and released from the J. Reuben Detention Center Thursday on $1,000 bail, according to jail records.

Horry County officers were called about 4:30 p.m. to a home on Clemson Road in Conway, according to a police report.

The victim told police Hamilton was mad with him because he was out riding a golf cart with a friend. The victim said Hamilton shoved him down on the couch and screamed at him, police said.

A man in the home told Hamilton not to touch the victim. Hamilton then walked outside and when she came back inside she grabbed the victim by the throat and began choking him and screaming at him, according to the report.

The man in the home pulled Hamilton off the victim, and Hamilton fell to the ground. The man told another child there to call 911, authorities said.

Hamilton told police she did push the victim down and put her hands on his face, but said she did not choke him.

The man told police Hamilton has been dealing with breast cancer, police said.
