A Longs woman was arrested in Myrtle Beach on a prostitution charge after first telling police she met a man in a parking lot to purchase a hard drive she found on Craigslist, according to a police report.
Kelly Corren Canning, 31, of Longs was charged with first-offense prostitution and was being held at 7 a.m. Tuesday at the Myrtle Beach Jail on a $781 cash bond, according to jail records.
Canning called officers about 11:15 p.m. Monday to a restaurant on Seaboard Street to report she met a man to buy an external hard drive in the parking lot of Sam’s Club at 1946 Mr. Joe White Ave., police said.
Canning said she replied to an advertisement on Craigslist for the hard drive and when she got into the man’s car, he told her she was not going anywhere, according to the report. Canning said he drove her to the parking lot of a closed restaurant on 21st Avenue North and tried to rape her.

But Canning said she was able to get away and run across U.S. 17 Bypass and call police.
When detectives interviewed Canning she told police she agreed to perform a sexual act on the man for $80 and the man left without paying her, according to the report. Canning also told police she left her car keys and cellphone inside the man’s vehicle when he drove away.
Canning said she called police to get her keys and phone returned to her, according to the report. Canning didn’t give police the man’s name, but told him he was missing a front tooth.
