A hunter who was reported missing earlier in the Mt. Pleasant area of Newberry County has been found and is safe.
First responders and members of law enforcement were searching the woods for the missing man earlier Monday night in an area between S.C. 34 and Heller's Creek near the Sumter National Forest, according to an advisory issued by the Newberry County Sheriff’s Office.
The missing man and another hunter became separated as they exited the woods close to dark.
After seeing a SLED helicopter requested by the sheriff’s office, the hunter fired several rounds which led search parties to his area. Responders then made voice contact and a short time later the missing man was found.
