Horry County police continued Monday to investigate a fatal shooting that occurred during the weekend in the Carolina Forest area, Lt. Robert Kegler said.
No arrests have been made and officials are working to identify any suspects in the shooting, Kegler said Monday.
Dexter Smith, 26, was found shot to death about 3:45 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot of Canterbury Apartments, which is where he lived, according to an Horry County police report. Smith was taken to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center where he later died from the wounds.
An officer was on patrol near the apartment complex, which is located off Carolina Forest Boulevard near U.S. 501, when dispatchers received a call about gunshots being fired there, according to the report. The officer found a gold Ford Expedition had crashed into a Toyota Corolla in the parking lot.

Smith was found on the ground next to the Ford and had suffered several gunshot wounds to his chest, stomach and arm, according to the report. Some bystanders had begun CPR on Smith until EMS arrived at the scene.
The witnesses told officers they heard between four to six gunshots from the parking lot and saw a Chrysler 300 speed off after the gunfire, according to the report. Officers seized five shell casings from the area.
No other details were listed in the report.
