The Horry County Sherriff’s Office was alerted by the Conway police department about a phone scam where someone is claiming to be a deputy and seeking to collect a fine for a missed jury duty assignment, said agency spokesman Jeff Benton.

Benton said a deputy would never call a resident attempting to collect monies for any kind of fine. He said in most cases, if someone failed to appear for court when ordered, a deputy bearing a proper uniform and badge would visit the person’s residence.

Benton said anyone with information about the caller or the scam can call the 915-5450.
