An Horry County police officer has returned to work after her gun discharged hitting her while she tried to secure it, according to authorities.
Officers with Horry County and Conway along with Horry County Fire Rescue were called about 3:45 a.m. Feb. 23 to a home on Alcazar Court for a shooting involving the off-duty officer, Tysheena May, according to the police report.
Officers found May suffered a wound to her left hand and right thigh area and was taken to a local hospital for treatment, according to the report. The homeowner told police that she and May had returned to her home after being out and she went to her bedroom and heard her fire alarm activate.
The woman said she found May in the other bedroom unclothed with blood in there, according to the report. The woman said May told her she was securing her firearm to place it in the closet when the incident occurred.
The incident was classified as an accidental shooting and the report showed the case was closed as being unfounded.
