Horry County police investigate shooting where woman was injured, man killed

Horry County police are investigating a shooting Sunday that left a 37-year-old Longs man dead and a 32-year-old woman injured, according to authorities.

Corey M. Williams, 37, of Longs died from a gunshot wound ad his death is under investigation, Horry County Deputy Coroner Tony Hendrick said.

A 32-year-old woman was taken to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center for treatment of a gunshot wound to her stomach area, according to a police report. Officers were called at 1 p.m. Sunday to a home in the 600 block of Geranium Road, which is near Freemont Road in the Longs community.

Dispatchers told police that someone was playing with a gun and someone had been killed, but the telephone connection was lost, according to the report. An officer found Williams dead in a bedroom of the home and a woman slumped over a pile of clothing next to Williams feet.

The woman told police that she and Williams were “just playing” and “he shot her” and then “shot himself,” according to the report. The woman told police the shooting “was an accident.”

A 16-year-old boy, who was also inside the home at the time of the shooting, told officers he was watching television when he heard the gunshots, according to the report. The teen said he heard laughter coming from the bedroom before the shots.

The incident is under investigation.
