NC man charged in June carjacking incident in Myrtle Beach

An arrest warrant was served to an N.C. man on a charge of carjacking after he was returned to Myrtle Beach to face prosecution in connection with a June incident on Ocean Boulevard, according to authorities.

Shaquille O’Neal McArthur, 19, of Whiteville, N.C., was charged with carjacking early Thursday after he was extradited from Brunswick County, where he had been held since being arrested on July 4, according to police. Two other men were being held in connection with the incident, but they have not been charged.

McArthur is being held at the Myrtle Beach Jail pending a bond hearing.

The charge stemmed from an incident on June 28 in the 3000 block of North Ocean Boulevard. The 51-year-old victim had returned to his vehicle, a 2007 white Dodge Caravan, in a parking garage across from the Jamaican Hotel.

The victim speaks French, so his 46-year-old wife translated his account for police. The victim said he saw three men in the parking lot when he walked to his vehicle and one walked up behind him as he closed the rear door, according to the report. The victim said the suspect choked him and he tried to get away, but he eventually blacked out.

When he woke up, his keys and vehicle were gone, according to the report.

The victim said he went across the street to the Sea Captain’s House to call police and then got his wife from their hotel room and they waited in the lobby of the Caribbean Resort for police.

The victim was treated by EMS for minor cuts to his head and knee, but refused to go to the hospital.
