Credit card snatched from locked hotel room used in spending spree at souvenir shops

A man staying at the Landmark Resort told police his wallet was taken from his locked hotel room and a check with his bank revealed his credit card had been used at three different stores in Myrtle Beach.

The thief had racked up a total of more than $334 on the man’s Navy Federal credit card within a span of three hours Sunday, according to a police report.

The man told police that his card was used three times at the Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market at 1705 S. Kings Hwy. for purchases totaling $122.21.

The card was then used to purchase $130.78 worth of merchandise from the Manta Ray Beach Shop at 1708 S. Ocean Blvd. and $81.18 worth of merchandise from the Grand Atlantic Gift Shop at 2007 S. Ocean Blvd., according to the report.

The breaking-and-entering theft remains under investigation.
