A 48-year-old Conway man was killed late Tuesday night just before midnight when a bullet ripped through his home, which was sprayed by gunfire during a drive-by shooting.
Darryl Hunte, 48, of Conway, died in the incident, which Horry County police are investigating, according to Michelle McSpadden, deputy coroner with the Horry County Coroner’s Office.
The shooting happened on Beau Street in the Conway area about 11:58 p.m., according to Krystal Dotson, Horry County police spokeswoman, and no arrests had been made in connection with the shooting death as of Wednesday afternoon.
When officers arrived to the scene they found several family members standing outside the home “distraught, crying and yelling” about their father being shot, according to a police report.
Police discovered Hunte had been struck by a bullet that came through the front of the home. A censored police report stated he suffered a gunshot wound, but does not state where on his body he was fatality injured.
When officers entered the home they met a 44-year-old woman crying in a bedroom. Police then found Hunte in the arms of a 19-year-old man.
Six people were at the home when the shooting occurred, including an 8-year-old boy. They’re all listed as victims in the police report, but none were injured, according to Dotson.
Witnesses gave police details about the suspect’s vehicle, and the investigation continues.
