VFW Calabash Post #7288 saw more than 200 people gather on Memorial Day to remember service men and women who gave their lives in past wars. During his remarks, featured speaker Brig. Gen. Wayne R. Monteith, USAF, mentioned by name, North Carolinians from all branches of service from all the wars in which our nation has been involved who made the ultimate sacrifice.

To open the Memorial Day ceremony, service cadets from the West Brunswick High School Jr. ROTC posted the colors. Pictured in the Color Guard are (from left) VFW Post member Bill Hertline, cadets Houston Parker, Ariella Ortiz, Olivia Pittman, Raven Decosier and VFW Post member Benny Bruno. The ceremony also included singing of patriotic songs, the placing of wreaths by the Ladies’ and Men’s auxiliaries, names of Post members who died since last Memorial Day and, for them, the sounding of “Taps.”
